You won’t be able to build in any custom functions with the Keychron K2.
KEYCHRON K2 BATTERY INDICATOR BLUETOOTH
The fn key on the keyboard really only accesses the function layer, bluetooth settings, and some LED colour settings. While other mechanical keyboards have layers for programming your keys, the Keychron does not have this.
KEYCHRON K2 BATTERY INDICATOR ANDROID
Mine came with the macOS keys installed so I was set after a quick check to make sure that it was in the proper operating system mode.įor Windows and Android users, the keys you want are included in the box and they’re fairly easy to pull off with the included key puller. The Keychron K2 has a switch on the side dedicated to changing between OS modes. Like I said one of my biggest issues with the Akko 3068 was that it didn’t support macOS/iPadOS properly which meant that the Option/Command keys were flipped. I end up using it in the highest position. To finish off the construction of the keyboard, it has a dual position foot on the bottom that is rubberized to prevent slipping on your work surface. They also don’t have as sharp a sound at the Cherry switches on the Akko. I got the Gateron Brown switches, which feel softer than the Cherry MX Brown’s from the Akko 3068. The keyboard is available in three different switch choices, all from Gateron. Coming from macOS/iPadOS I’ve always used the built in keyboard commands to capture the screen and have never needed a dedicated button. I’ve trigged this key a few times by accident when I’m trying to use backspace. Even on iPadOS this dedicated button will take a screenshot.

With this keyboard you also have a full set of arrow keys, and page up/down home/end keys and even a dedicated print screen button.

The Keychron K2 provides full support for media control. One of the faults I had with the Akko 3068 was the lack of much ability to control the media functions of my devices. The Keychron K2 is a 75% layout keyboard, with the notable addition of a top function/media row. The hardware switch on the Keychron K2 was the assurance I needed. After making a mistake about operating system support in the Akko purchase, I wanted to be sure that whatever my second purchase was, I knew without a doubt that it supported macOS/iPadOS properly. You can see the label for our unit here.In my quest for a new keyboard the Keychron K2 is my second stop, with the Akko 3068 being the first attempt at finding a nice mechanical keyboard.
KEYCHRON K2 BATTERY INDICATOR UPDATE
If someone notices that their unit doesn't correspond to our review, please let us know in the discussions and we'll update the review. You can get a wrist rest and a set of PBT keycaps directly from their website, so your experience may vary with these extra parts. Keychron sells extra accessories for the K2 V2 mechanical keyboard. It's the updated version of the Keychron K2 V1, which doesn't have an incline frame or a Caps Lock indicator light. The differences between the versions are listed below, and the build quality, typing experience, and typing noise may change depending on which model and switch type you get. It's available in a few different variants, including a hot-swappable version that allows you to quickly change the switches without soldering. We tested the Keychron K2 V2 with an aluminum frame, RGB backlighting, and Gateron Brown switches. If you notice some fatigue, you can also get a wrist rest separately. The keys are light to press, and despite having a high profile, it shouldn't be too tiring typing on them for long periods. The ABS keycaps feel slippery, but you can get an extra set of PBT keycaps. The function row is the same height as the number row instead of being slightly taller like on most keyboards, so it may feel different for some, but it shouldn't be too much of an issue. The right Shift key is smaller than the left Shift, so that may cause an increase in typos when you first use it. The compact 75% size may take some time to get used to, especially if you use non-alphanumeric keys, such as Page Up and Page Down, which are positioned differently than on standard full-sized keyboards. The keys are stable, but the spacebar wobbles just a bit. They offer good tactile feedback, and it's also available with Gateron Red and Blue switches, so you can get the ones you prefer. The Gateron Brown switches on our unit provide a great typing experience.
